So this is one of my favorite ways to enter into spiritual warfare. I have always loved to sing (much to my husband’s annoyance at times :0) and easily break forth in song and praise.
I can already hear what you might be thinking: “I’m not a good singer” Well, guess what? Father God thinks your voice is numbered among some of His dearest songbirds! So break forth. Open up your mouth and let the notes come!
In case some of you are not convinced, we are going to delve into some scriptures that will help us to see the power in praise! This can be done in song, word, or declaration. First, we should make note of the definition of praise where in Merriam- Webster’s Dictionary, it lists the words bless, celebrated, emblazon, exalt, extol, hmmn , laud magnify, and resound as synonyms and I cannot think of anything or anyone else who deserves it more than our Lord, Jesus! Of course, whenever I speak of Jesus, I’m also including the Father and Holy Spirit. They are all one. (just had another idea for a topic for another blog)
Where else can we start but at the beginning and I’m hoping and praying that you all know that Jesus was right there. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” John 1:1 NIV
All it takes for me to be astounded at how wonderful our God is, is to think of Him creating EVERYTHING in the very beginning: giving outer space order, creating our special planet Earth to sustain life, creating every plant, animal and amoeba! Don’t even get me started on how He had the first surgery while opening Adam and borrowing a rib so he could make the first Eve. He created it all and to know that “He” is really “They” makes it even more special and consecrated to me.
Just thinking of things like this sends me into a whirlwind of awesomeness that I can’t help but break out into a state of awe and wonder and begin praising Him! Thankfully I don’t do this much in Walmart, Schnuck’s or the Piggly Wiggly aisles although this does bring up something nice about our latest mask wearing mandate: people couldn’t see me praying/praising, so I could just let it go!
Giving Praise also keeps us connected to our frailty and His greatness on our behalf. The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; “This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will extol Him.” Exodus 15:2 NIV Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord among the nations, And I will sing praises to your name. 2Samuel 22:50 NIV
Just think of Praise as a one two punch to the enemy. He can’t stand it when we are praising God. Remember? he wanted all the praise for himself! Here is a song by Kari Jobe called “The Blessing” that has had my heart for about a year. I love singing it and declaring it over my family!
I can’t believe I haven’t even begun to get into the Psalms. They are covered with Praise songs from King David himself along with Moses, Hernan the Ezrahite, Ethan the Ezrahite, Solomon, Asaph, and the sons of Korah! “Praise ye the Lord , O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalms 109:30 KJV Along with a shout for His great attributes, we should thank Him and Praise Him for His great qualities.
What has He done for you lately? Did you wake up in a warm bed this morning? Praise Him! There are some who didn’t. Is your stomach not rumbling from hunger? Many wake up and lay their heads down with a stomach that speaks louder than their voice! Be thankful and Praise your God! I encourage you to not let it stop there, but Praise on their behalf. He could send you an answer or a way to help them. All things are possible for Him and through Him. Praise and Listen.
Praise breaks the chains of bondage and sets captives free . Spiritual Doors that have been shut for so long can be opened suddenly through the power of Praise! Chains that have held people for so long can instantaneously be broken through Praise coupled with prayer as it did for Peter in Acts 12:1-19 and show us that we better be looking for our answer to come walking through the door and not have to be alerted by a little child of how God hears us and responds!
Boy, I wish I could be with you now! I bet you are pumped up and feeling the strength and possibility that there is in the Lord! I love that! Thank you Lord, You are a good, good God!
Can you tell I learned how to embed songs? Woot Woot!
