How can such a small word mean so much? We all trust that when we go to sleep tonight that we will wake up at tomorrow’s morning light. We trust that when we take a bite of spaghetti it doesn’t taste like liver. We trust when getting into our cars to go to work that we will return home safely.
Maybe these are things that we shouldn’t take for granted. One only has to look at the traffic on our highways to know an accident can easily happen and we see them on the news all the time. Something just as well could happen to alter our ability to taste. I’ve heard of friends that have had operations where their sensation of taste has almost completely disappeared and we all have had people who have so quickly and sadly vanished from our lives.
I want to put forth another thing that can be easily taken for granted and that’s our relationship with God the father. Think about it. Would any of us let a person that we don’t have conversations with, share our hurts, hopes and dreams with stick around? How about a person that doesn’t even want to get to know and understand you better and seems disinterested whenever you speak?
Thank God He is not like that! He knows everything about us and still loves us. Unconditionally! He loves what makes us laugh and gets our humor. He loves our singing (yes, even the off-key singing), He loves what makes us tick and His heart really feels for us when we are wounded.

You might be wondering what does this have to do with trust? The more time we spend learning about Him and in the Bible discovering things about Him, the stronger our trust in Him becomes. We learn of His ways and discover that He won’t let us down.
There may be times when we are disappointed with the outcome of situations, and that’s when we need to realize that this is a fallen world. That may be why I especially like John 16:33 which tells us, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” NIV
What about the times when we have situations in our lives when we need to know an answer right away?! TRUST! By all means pray! He hears even the sheer cry of desperation that may be short and expedient. “Help!”, “I need your Help, Lord”, “Jesus, please!” These are some of His most powerful and sacred moments to attend to.
The “Why, God why?” and “When, God when?” cries are the ones we need to place in His hands and know He is at work on them. He is attentive, even when it doesn’t seem so. Trust. “Behold, the Lords’ hand is not shortened that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.” Isiah 59:1 NIV
